Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week to Help Residents Stay Safe
The Government of Saskatchewan is recognizing November 1-7 as Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Week to highlight the importance of CO safety and educate residents about prevention measures, something that is top of mind for Garth Kalin of Prince Albert. It was early in the morning on a cold winter’s day that Kalin woke up to the loud sounds of his carbon monoxide alarms. Little did he know, he and his family were at risk of succumbing to severe CO poisoning in as little as one hour had the alarms not alerted him to the danger. The cause was CO buildup in his furnace room. “Carbon monoxide alarms...
Provincial government approves SaskEnergy’s commodity rate increase; the lowest rate in Canada
The Government of Saskatchewan has approved SaskEnergy’s application to increase its commodity rate — the first increase in seven years after four consecutive decreases. The new rate will be the lowest in Canada. Effective November 1, 2021, SaskEnergy’s commodity rate changes from $2.575/Gigajoule (GJ) to $3.20/GJ. The adjustment will increase the average residential customer’s bill by $6.16 per month. “SaskEnergy’s commodity rate increase is a reflection of the significant rise in natural gas prices. Gas utilities across Canada are facing the same challenge,” said Ken From, President and...

One call-back number being used is 1-866-339-0369. This is not a SaskEnergy representative, nor is the line a SaskEnergy phone number. While SaskEnergy does contact customers via phone from...
Freeze/thaw cycle creates conditions for possible underground natural gas leaks
SaskEnergy is advising customers – both residential and business – that the unseasonably warm weather, following right after intense cold across the province, may create conditions that can lead to an underground natural gas leak. + While SaskEnergy’s pipeline system is designed to withstand Saskatchewan’s weather conditions, underground leaks can occur, typically in the spring, as frost leaves the ground. This year, due to the intense cold and the depth of the frost layer, followed by sudden warming, SaskEnergy is alerting customers that conditions are favourable for a leak to occur. If you...
SaskEnergy applies for first commodity rate increase in seven years; remains second lowest in Canada
SaskEnergy has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel to increase its commodity rate, which would continue to be the lowest in Western Canada and the second lowest in the country. The proposed commodity rate of $3.15/gigajoule (GJ), up from $2.58/GJ, would increase the average residential customer’s bill by $5.65 per month. SaskEnergy’s commodity rate is a pass-through of market costs, with no profit or loss earned. “Natural gas prices in the open market have essentially doubled since SaskEnergy decreased the commodity rate in 2019. Increased natural gas demand for power generation...
