The two rate adjustments combined will see a total bill decrease of 8.8% for the average residential customer, or annual savings of $81. “We all know how vital reliable natural gas service is to the people and businesses of Saskatchewan. Safety reasons force removal of more services at Last Mountain Lake

Due to continued high levels of ground movement in key zones within six Last Mountain Lake communities, SaskEnergy today announced it will be permanently removing natural gas service for about 250 property owners, or about 16% of its customer base in the area. SaskEnergy monitors ground movement using below-ground measurement devices, natural gas leak surveys, geotechnical analysis, mapping and satellite monitoring. Since the summer of 2014, SaskEnergy has repaired underground leaks on its system in the impacted zones at significantly higher rates compared to the provincial average. “We...

The Commercial Space and Water Heating Rebate encourages the use of high-efficiency equipment to maximize energy cost savings while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Flooding

Preparing for a Flood If you suspect any natural gas appliances might become submerged from flood water or sewer back-up, consider following these steps: Hire a licensed gas contractor to ‘shut off’ the gas at the supply valve to natural gas appliances that may be affected. Relocate appliances to a dry location by raising them above potential water levels, to upper floors or other suitable storage areas. Have your contractor cap and properly seal the gas pipe ends (appliance gas supply line) to all affected appliances to prevent water from entering the piping system. Shut off the electrical...

Setting Commodity Rates

Natural gas prices can fluctuate The commodity rate is the Gas Consumption Charge on your bill. SaskEnergy follows the regulatory standard practice to recover the cost of natural gas sold to customers without any markup. As a utility, we should not incur a profit or a loss on the sale of natural gas. As natural gas prices fluctuate, the cost of buying natural gas each month varies. Because we don't know the total cost of gas for a particular period of time, SaskEnergy uses a Gas Cost Variance Account (GCVA) to balance the changes in costs and revenues over time. This approach helps provide you...

SaskEnergy offers rebates, program to support heating efficiency and safety this winter

As the winter heating season begins, SaskEnergy has launched three programs to assist homeowners across the province with home equipment upgrades, maintenance and safety. SaskEnergy’s Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate, the Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rebate, and a second phase of the Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) are available to residents as of November 2 nd, 2020. Building on its successful Residential Furnace Rebate in 2019, SaskEnergy has renamed and expanded the program for 2020-21 to include monetary rebates for the purchase and installation of qualifying high-efficiency natural gas...

Buyer beware of door-to-door heating and cooling equipment sales

Saskatchewan plumbing and heating specialists are encouraging homeowners to do their homework and take steps to protect themselves before investing in new heating and cooling equipment. In light of recent complaints, the Mechanical Contractors Association of Saskatchewan (MCAS), Natural Gas Appliance and Equipment Association (NGAEDA), and SaskEnergy Network Members are reminding Saskatchewan residents to properly research door-to-door salespeople and out-of-province companies offering equipment sales. Several local businesses and organizations have received reports of high-pressure sales...

Any appliance that burns fuel can cause CO build-up, including fireplaces, gas stoves, water heaters, furnaces, grills, generators or car engines. CO poisoning can happen to anyone but some people are more susceptible than others. Elderly, infants and those with heart or respiratory...

For your Farm

Grain Drying When weather doesn't cooperate, a natural gas grain dryer can extend your harvest season. Benefits of using natural gas versus other energy options include: Lower fuel costs Convenience of not dealing with tanks or the need to refuel Reduced drying time Less greenhouse gas emissions Fuel Consumption In Saskatchewan, the typical grain drying temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. Using heat to dry the grain during the fall season prior to below zero temperatures will reduce drying...
